INDO – US CENTRE FOR RESEARCH EXCELLENCE ON FABRIONICS
Presents
SHORT-TERM COURSE:
MECHANICS OVER MICRO AND NANO SCALE (STCMMN 09)
Organized Jointly by: IIT Kharagpur and BESUS, Shibpur
December 21-22, 2009 Venue: BESUS, Shibpur (Kolkata)
At the micro and nano scales, realization of many technologically viable ideas relies on skillful integration of the mechanics at macroscopic and molecular levels, both for solids as well as fluids. Revisiting mechanics at these length scales have unravelled new insights which not only conform to mere extrapolation of sizes or scales but have also put forward non-intuitive avenues in the description of properties of matters. Research in the related areas is no longer confined to the understanding of the governing physics of the system, but is also responsible for triggering a technological revolution at small scales. This short term course will highlight some of the recent developments in the fields of mechanics at all forms over micro, meso and nano scales, with a special emphasis to the related novel applications.
