An Album

Class of 1979 (Oonoashi) will celebrate 30th anniversary of their graduation with a grand gift to our beloved institution. They have renovated one of the historic buildings, Slater Hall, in our campus that would house Students' Centre for Creative Excellence. This centre will provide an opportunity to the students to nurture their talents in extra-curricular activities.  Previously, they raised enough funds, while celebrating 25th anniversary of graduation, to sponsor four (4) scholarships perpetually to the needy students via GAABESU Scholarship Programme.

We salute Class of 79 for setting such a wonderful example in giving back (in the form of Guru Dakshina after completing education) to the Alma Mater and hope all other classes will follow them.

Slater Hall, a two-storied building, consisting of 9 rooms with 11 carpet areas (in two rooms there are mezzanine floors) has been completely reconstructed and refurbished. There are two long corridors and one stair case which were also renovated.  The renovation project involved completion of the followings tasks:

1. Covering the carpet areas with vitrified tiles,

2. Repairing and Painting of the rooms

3. New electrical wiring and re-installing the power supply.

4. Getting Fans, lights etc. in the entire building.

5. Furniture in all the rooms

6. Supply of few basic equipment/gadget to the students societies.

Everything else except Item no. 6 is completed. Five societies(Music, Drama, Debate & Quiz, Photography and Technical Innovation) have submitted their basic requirements and those will be in place by the second week of November. The complete budget for this project is INR 15 lakhs.

Hearty congratulations to 1979 batch. Heritage buildings throughout India and west bengal have been facing neglect for a long time. Corrupt babus in writers building does not understand the word heritage. What should have been government invervention in restoring the outlook of 150 year building is now under the care of 1979 batch. What a wonderful example the 1979 batch have shown.

I would like to convey my sincere appreciation to the Class of 1979 for their wonderful gift to our Alma Mater.
I entered BE College in 1953 and was allotted a seat in Slater Hall. The picture of the renovated Hall brings back fond memories of the great time I had with my batchmates in the first year.
I resided in Macdonald Hall from 2nd year to 4th year. The rich total experience of the four glorious years spent in the campus moulded us into young men ready to face all challenges in the years ahead of us in life.
Thank you once again Oonoashi.

Batch of 79 for setting such a wonderful example in giving back to the Alma Mater.
I stayed in Slater Hall for TWO years (Ist. and IInd yr. out of five yr. integrated B.E. Civil Engg. course) during 1962 and 1963. Many memories are with me. Thanks for nice renovation for creative work for our next generation of students.
I congratulate the batch of 1979!

Congratulations Class of 1979, for your generosity. Slater Hall and Downing have soft corners in the hearts of many "old" alumni like us. Good to know that some are looking after our heritage buildings. Thanks.

Batch of 1979 has set a enviable example for all other batches to follow. Sometime it may not be possible to get like minded friends together; hopefully Global Alumni Association (GAA) will be able to serve a medium for those like minded alumni to join their hands for doing something good for our own alma mater. I request all alumni to join GAA to do something good for your own alma mater.
