Status Report on Ganapati Sengupta VLSI Lab

  1. Ganapati Sengupta VLSI Lab. was formally inaugurated on 13th May, 2005.
  2. 12 UG students participated in summer training in this lab during June-July 2005.
  3. One PG student completed his ME Project. Three PG students are working in this lab to complete their projects by May, 2006.
  4. One Magma Research scholar has joined and the second one may join in Dec. 2005.
  5. Two research papers, from this lab, have been accepted for publication in the International conference (ATS 05).
  6. BESUS, in association with IIT Kharagpur, ISI Calcutta, and Jadavpur University, is going to organizing the IEEE sponsored 14th ASIAN Test Symposium, 2005 scheduled to be held in Kolkata during 18th 21st December 2005. This event involves Ganapati Sengupta VLSI Laboratory. The Joint Conveners of this lab are currently engaged for this event.
  7. Draft Syllabus for M.E. in VLSI Technology has been prepared. A workshop on this issue will be held during 1st week of December 2005. Prof. Amar Mukherjee, USA has been agreed to conduct the workshop.
  8. A series of lectures on emerging areas of VLSI design and test has been started. Dr. Bydut K. Sen, Director, Sun Micro-system, USA  delivers the first lecture of this series on Challenges for building of next generation computers on 11th November, 2005.
  9. Two-sun servers have been borrowed from PDSIT for installing the EDA software. Magma software has already been installed. Purchase process for Mentor tools is started. It is expected that the installation will be completed by December, 2005.
  10.  Following faculties with VLSI background have started utilizing the resources of this lab for their research:

Prof. P. Ghosal (IT),

Prof. T. Samanta (IT).

 

  1.  The School of VLSI technology has been established and taking its shape. This school is receiving funds from Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Govt. of India, for Special Manpower development Program Phase II (SMDP II) in VLSI Design and related software.
